Issue #8
I believe in the adage that it takes a village to raise a child and research emphasises that the most successful schools are those where school and home work in partnership. We know how much students gain from your attendance at school events like Assemblies and Masses.

Clearview/Kilburn Catholic Parish
We are part of the Clearview/Kilburn Catholic Parish, and it was good to see so many families attend the Parish Bingo night at the end of last term in our Sacred Heart Centre.
The Parish has a variety of forthcoming events. Please find below a link to these. https://adelaide.catholic.org.au/news-and-events/events-1
Mother’s Day Morning Tea and Stall
It was terrific to see the more than 60 mothers who attended last week’s Mother’s Day stall. It is in acknowledgement of the important role that mothers play in our community but also testament to our St Gabriel’s Community Group for their organisation and promotion of events like this. Thanks to the community group.
Feast of Pentecost
This week in the Catholic Church the celebrations have centred around preparations Jesus/God makes before the time when Jesus returns to the Father.
Last Sunday, as well as being Mother’s Day, it was the celebration of the Ascension of Jesus. Jesus returned to the Father and commanded the apostles to return to Jerusalem to await the coming of the Holy Spirit.
As they watched Jesus ascend to heaven, they were reminded that their mission wasn’t to wait idly for the return of Jesus, but to carry out His mission. The mission to spread good news to the poor, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the imprisoned, tend to the sick and share with others.
This is the mission of the church today and the mission of all Christians.
It is with the strength of the Holy Spirit, brought to the apostles at Pentecost, by which the apostles and each of us today is able to carry out Jesus’ mission.
We remember that the Holy Spirit filled the room the apostles were in with gusts of wind and with what appeared to be tongues of fire on their heads.
It is this same Holy Spirit that enabled the apostles and enables us to carry out the mission of Christ.
It is also the same Holy Spirit that will be called down upon the Confirmation candidates in our parish this June.
The Holy Spirit gives us strength, wisdom, reverence, awe and wonder, understanding, counsel and understanding. These gifts equip us to carry the mission of Jesus in our lives through helping others, showing kindness and love when it may be easier to act in a different way. We are all called to make a positive difference in our world.
This Sunday is the Feast of Pentecost in the church. This Feast day is sometimes called the birthday of the church as it was when the disciples began the mission of Christ which the church continues today.
I wish all families a happy Pentecost and pray that the Holy Spirit is with you in happy times, times that are challenging and always a source of joy and inspiration to you and your families.
On Friday the 3rd May the receptions and Year 1's visited Lenswood Orchard. The weather was beautiful and we had such a wonderful day!
We started off with a walking tour of the orchard and learnt all about the different types of apples grown. We also learnt about how the orchard is cared for within different seasons.
We ate lunch together at the orchard and even got to try some fresh apple juice! Playing on the old tractors was a definite highlight of the day for everyone! We also got to see some new tractors and learn about their different features.
Students had so much fun picking apples and they were excited to take home their very own bag of apples!
The Earth Care Squad members are planting vegetables in the garden which will coincide with Laudato Si Week. Laudato Si calls us to care for God’s creation and recognise the blessings we have been provided in the natural world.
Thank you to the Community Group for all the effort made to offer a successful celebration of Mother’s Day for our students and mothers.
It was lovely to see so many mothers enjoy the breakfast on Friday morning. It was also great to see some new faces helping the Community Group.
We look forward to the next event the group organises and if you would like to help and are available, you are most welcome to assist.
