We are delighted to making the most of the new buildings, but I thought it important for you to know that we now commence the next stage of the master planning. We continue to look to upgrade our facilities to benefit the learning and wellbeing of our students. In my experience this works best when there is input from all stakeholders including you as parents and caregivers and I look forward to sharing further information with you about this in the future.
From the start of this year, we have been analysing the academic and wellbeing of our students and assessing their progress to understand their strengths and areas for improvement. I encourage you to engage in the forthcoming learning conversations with your child’s teacher to support them as they work towards achieving their learning goals. Information has been sent home with your child to enable you to login and make a booking.
I am delighted to share some news about our old scholars and their achievements at Our Lady of the Sacred Hear College. We would also like to congratulate and acknowledge the staff here at St Gabriel’s who have impacted and played an important role in their primary school years which supported and nurtured their academic achievements.

Thanks to the staff and especially those who stayed overnight to enable the Year 4 students to attend last week’s Zoo Snooze. The feedback from the students about this great learning experience has been very positive.
As part of our commitment to the partnership with you, the board and I have been looking at engaging the services of speakers to provide workshops and presentations for parents and caregivers on topical issues such as wellbeing, anxiety, and resilience. Stay tuned for further information.
As we continue through Lent, we are reminded this is a time of coming closer to God. Christians practice prayer, almsgiving and fasting. Please remember that there are Project Compassion boxes in classrooms and homes that can be used to give to the poor.
Mr Burness and Miss Wood’s class are celebrating St Patrick’s Day to raise money or Project Compassion. This is another way to observe Lent in our school and we hope you are able to participate.
Lent is a time of reflections and coming back to God and letting God be in our lives. We pray and ask God to show us how to be loving and caring towards ourselves and others.
There are members of our school community who are observing Ramadan. It is comforting to think they are also encouraged to fast and to give to charity, to show kindness and patience and to strengthen their relationship with God during this time.
The multicultural nature of our school allows us to learn from each other’s cultures and be more loving. This is a great strength of our school.
Reflection Day for children Saturday 16th March
Time: 10 am – 1.00 pm
Location: St Brigid’s School Hall (See Flyer)
This Sunday is St Patrick’s Day. This Saint’s Day seems to be one that is celebrated regularly and robustly around the world.
St Patrick was captured and taken to Ireland as a prisoner. He worked with the poor in Ireland and after his release, was able to leave Ireland. Eventually he returned to Ireland to care for the poor and suffering people he had met during his captivity.
We pray for the gift of forgiveness St Patrick showed and the for the service he demonstrated in caring for others.
Let these qualities fill our hearts and help us be Christ like as St Patrick has shown by his example.
On Thursday 21st the students will share a lunch of cultural foods to celebrate our diversity.
We will also pray for unity as a whole school in the gym.
On Friday 22nd March, donuts with orange icing will be served to those children who have ordered via the QKR app.
Children can also wear clothes that show orange to support Harmony Day.
Hats will still need to be worn as usual.
In Week 4 we went sailing!
We had an amazing day at the Brighton-Seacliff Yacht Club, where we learned about water safety equipment and the basics of sailing in different sized craft.
Even though it was a bit cool, we had a fantastic time.
In Science, we have experimented with shapes of containers which float or sink under load, and how the density of liquids enable them to float or sink compared to other liquids.
In Art we worked with oil pastels and warm and cool colours.
We created named posters, using shapes and warm or cool colours to make our names stand out in the contrasting colour set.
The children received their Earth Care Squad badges last week at assembly. Any child that didn’t receive a badge can see Mr Meixner.
The children are planning which vegetables to plant in their garden beds. We look forward to transforming the vegetable garden soon.
The chickens are settling in very well to their new home. Thanks to Bunnings Prospect for the new chicken cages.
Harmony Day donuts will be served on Friday 22nd March.
The group is also organising Hot Cross Buns for the last day of Lent and are organinsing the Easter raffle. Tickets will be available soon.
Refer to the flyers below for more information about Harmony Day and Hot Cross Buns.
