Issue #19
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Incredibly, we are over half way through our final term for the year. Much has happened so far this term, with many activities and events still to come: swimming lessons for the lower grades, the year 6 musical, our carols evening, graduation for our senior students and various excursions to name just some. Please keep an eye on our school calendar and notes as they come home to ensure you are aware of what is going on.
Congratulations to our 2023 Children's University Graduates. I had the privilege of presenting the girls and boys at last night's ceremony conducted at Bonython Hall on The University of Adelaide grounds. Children's University is an innovative program that engages children and young people in exciting, out-of-school learning opportunities to increase their chances for educational achievement and rewards them for taking responsibility for their own learning. Children’s University works with community and cultural institutions, supports the development of school-based clubs and activities, and provides many opportunities for parents and communities to engage in the education of our young people (because they are our future). To be involved, participants must be between the ages of 5 and 14 years, with 15 to 18 years old students offered the chance to participate as volunteers and leaders. A big thank you to Mrs Helen Voiklis for all her wonderful work to ensure to students are supported throughout the year and is our star coordinator for the night.
Italian Language Competition
The South Australian Teachers of Italian (SAATI) in conjunction with the Consul of Italy in SA and the Dante Alighieri Society of SA invited students learning Italian in South Australia to participate in a language competition: L'italiano e la sostenibilità - Italian and Sustainability to showcase their ideas and solutions on the topic of sustainability.
Students in 2H and 2K entered the competition and we are excited to announce that St Gabriel’s School has won equal second prize in the Year Reception – 2 category!
Maestra Dina and a student representative from each class attended the awards ceremony at the Marche Club. Jessica and Alyssa were excited to accept the award and prize on behalf of their peers and Maestra Dina also won a teacher award at the ceremony.
Congratulazioni studenti! – congratulations students!

ADVENT
It is important to remember that the season of Advent comes before the Christmas Season in the Liturgical Year.
While Christmas is lots of fun and we can be tempted to think about the benefits we can enjoy at this time of the year, it is important to be prepared for the real meaning of the Christmas Season.
Without preparing our hearts for the coming of Christ the King, we can forget the great gift God has bestowed upon the world. Christ came to Earth to offer love, peace, hope and joy to the world. This is God’s great gift to world, the promise of God’s everlasting love of a life in Christ.
So how can we prepare during Advent? Being peacemakers in our families, caring for ourselves by eating well and exercising, speaking kindly to and about others, finding joy in the world.
All of these are easy things to accomplish but often we lose sight of what is important becoming distracted by selfishness and a sense of self-importance.
Let’s try and make room in our hearts for Jesus and others this Advent so we can be ready to receive Jesus at Christmas.
To help us prepare well the Clearview-Kilburn Parish will hold a Christmas Carols Evening at St Gabriel’s School on Saturday 9th December at 6.00 pm. All families are welcome to enjoy singing by community groups and Miss Wymond’s Year 1 students. Tracy and Shania will play keyboard showcasing their musical talent. There will be sausages and soft drinks available to purchase on the night.
We hope you can put the 9th December in your diary and come along to this parish event. All are welcome.
