Issue #17
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
A big congratulations to our year 6 students who led the way on Sports day to being another successful and rewarding day for all involved. Their enthusiasm and leadership set the tone for a day brimming with friendship, sportsmanship, and active participation. From the light-hearted fun of novelty events to the thrill of athletic competitions, students revelled in the joy of teamwork and exhilaration of physical activity. Congratulations to Xavier for winning the Champions Cup and Chevalier for winning the Spirit Shield.
A big thank you to Mrs Marino for co-ordinating the day as well as to the Community Group for another delicious barbecue.
The upcoming term will be a busy one for sports with many events open to all students. Simply Sports is coming to St Gabriel’s School to run a basketball and soccer program. The basketball program is open to all students, Monday afterschool for Junior primary (R-2) and Thursday afterschool for Primary students (Years 3-6) from 3;15 to 4:00pm. Soccer will also be available to Junior Primary students on a Wednesday afternoon 3:15-4:00. The sessions will be after school in Week 3, 4 and 5.Session will start at 3:15 and finish at 4:00.
On Wednesday, November 8th, in Week 4, a select group of students from Year 3 to Year 6 will have the honour of representing St Gabriel's School at the SACPSSA Athletics Carnival. It is a prestigious achievement to be selected, as only a few students from each year level are chosen. Students have been training on Wednesday mornings before school and will commence extra training on Thursday during school time in the next 2 weeks.
On Tuesday, November 21st, in Week 6, some of our Year 5 students will lead an activity station at the Annual PE Week Come and Try Day, hosted by SACPSSA in collaboration with ACHPER SA. This event will feature activity stations run by senior primary students from Catholic schools who have participated in this year's Student Leadership Program, as well as development officers from various sports associations. Our Year 2 students will participate in the event along with other groups from Catholic primary schools.
In Week 7 Reception to Yr 4 will undertake our Water Safety Program beginning Week 7, Monday 27th November to Friday 1st December at the ARC Campbelltown. Further information will be sent out in regards to timetable and permission forms.
Congratulations to the Festival Choir on their outstanding performance at the recent Catholic Schools Music Festival! The choir, under the guidance of Mrs Williams, performed a challenging and varied program of music, which they delivered with skill and artistry.
The Festival Choir is a valuable asset to our community, and we are grateful for their dedication to bringing us such high-quality musical performances. We look forward to seeing what they do next!
The Festival Choir is open to students in year 5 and 6 each year. If you would like your child to be involved keep and eye out for the choir note at the beginning of next year.
Construction of the new Administration Building is almost complete. Practical completion is set for next Thursday, with some time set aside for the rectification of any defects. All going well, we should be open for business on Barrington Avenue in a few weeks.

Dear Parents/Caregivers,
I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone for the beginning of Term 4.
Mission Mayhem – Supporting Catholic Missions at St Gabriel’s School.
The Year 6 students are preparing an outreach event to support the work of Catholic Missions. Each year Catholic Mission works to support communities with basic needs. This year Catholic Missions are supporting communities in Timor-Leste in the village of Venilale. Families in Timor-Leste require housing food and education for children. The Salesian Sisters who run a clinic in Venilale are working to provide health care and education to families in need.
Year 6 students have organised an event called Mission Mayhem. In previous years this type of event went by the name Caritas Carnival. The money raised is going to Catholic Missions this year, hence the change.
The Year 6 children are asking the whole school to get involved and support their fundraiser. Each child will have the opportunity to buy up to 8 tickets to spend at the carnival. The tickets cost 50 cents each and some activities will require 2 tickets to play and some require only one.
There will be activities like face painting, lucky dip, popcorn, mixed lollies, photo booth, games, and craft activities. Children will have plenty of opportunity to participate with four to eight tickets (costing between $2 - $4).
We plan to bring fun and happiness to our school while working to support Catholic Missions.

Maths - Shapes
Year 2 students have also enjoyed learning about 2D shapes and their properties. They have expanded their shape vocabulary and learnt about regular and irregular polygons. They are doing a great job at recognising what makes a shape unique.
This term Year 2 students started the week by thinking about their goals for the rest of the year. Students focused on making their goals specific and achievable. Next, they thought about what they could do to successfully achieve their goal. We look forward to celebrating the students’ achievements.
The highlight of the week will be visiting the Adelaide Festival Centre to watch a play as part of the OzAsia Festival. We will also visit the Adelaide Central Markets to shop for sushi ingredients! Year 2 students can’t wait to have a wonderful time exploring the sights, sounds, smells and delights of the markets.
Earth Care Squad
The summer vegetables are coming along very well in the school garden. Ms Killey’s class have planted lots of tomatoes and basil to make pizzas later in the year.
We have had some bad news regarding our chickens over the holidays. Unfortunately one of the chickens died in the holidays. It wasn’t hurt by another animal. We think the chicken had a condition called Egg Binding where the eggs get stuck in the chicken and cause problems for the bird. We are happy to report the other three chickens are doing well.
