Term 3 Week 1
Dear Families and Friends of St Gabriel’s
Welcome to Term 3. I am thoroughly enjoying my first week as Principal of our school and I feel very privileged to be appointed to this role.
It has been wonderful to meet many families during school drop off and pick up, and I look forward to meeting all of you at various events throughout the term including, our parish anniversary celebrations on 11 August, our school assemblies on Thursdays in weeks 3,6, and 9, and learning conversations and sports day, which will both take place much later in the term.
This term we welcome 31 new students who are starting in Gabby’s Angels, 18 children who have commenced Reception, and 2 new students who are commencing in Year 2 and Year 5.
This term we have a couple of staffing changes with Mrs Anita Marino and Mrs Mel Niejalke who are both on leave this term.
As we enter into this second semester, I would like to thank all families for your continued support as we work together in parternership to enhance your child's development.
Wishing all of our families a restful and joyous weekend.
Gemma D’Angelo
Principal
Welcome Back to School for Term 3
It has been a delight to see the children back at school. Smiling faces, friends catching up and finding the rhythm of the school day again after the break.
It has also been my pleasure to meet the new reception children this term. These children have had a lovely introduction to the school through Gabby’s Angels and are now our newest students.
We warmly welcome these children and their families to St Gabriel’s School.
On Monday 22nd the staff of St Gabriel’s School gathered at the Monastery on Cross Road in Urrbrae to engage in some spiritual formation. This type of activity is carried out in all Catholic Schools in SA.
The topic of our gathering was ‘Being Church Together’. We had the pleasure of listening to Fr James McEvoy from the Australian Catholic University and Ms Maddy Forde from the Office for Youth Ministry at the Catholic Education Office.
The main takeaway from their presentations was that we are called to be a welcoming community, to find strength and unity in all the members of our school and wider community. We heard that by looking to understand each other and what we bring to our community, this can help us each bring the best of what we have to offer on an individual. By knowing each other more deeply, we can Be Church Together more fully.
In this sense, the church is much more than the Good Shepherd Church building, it is the living community we are actively contributing towards each time we are present to each other.
“In each local place, the people of God, inspired by Jesus and empowered by the Spirit, share in the mission of God by living and proclaiming the word of God, as the one body of Christ with many parts an a community of communities… a communion.
Each of us, by coming to St Gabriel’s School are part of the parish of Clearview and St Brigid’s, with and for the children, families and the poor of the world.”

This year is the 60th anniversary of the Good Shepherd Church, the 70th anniversary of the St Brigid’s Church in Kilburn and the 20th anniversary of the joining together of Clearview Parish and Kilburn Parish. Good Shepherd Church and St Brigid’s Church are part of the same parish and are under the pastoral direction of Father Selva.
As there are these important milestones in our parish this year, Father Selva wants to CELEBRATE!
Everyone is invited to the celebratory Mass at Clearview Church on Sunday 11th August at 11.00am Archbishop Patrick O’Reagan will be present and will make the Mass a most special occasion.
Please join us for this most important celebration for our parish and school community.
The Earth Care Squad have been diligently caring for our environment at school. The winter vegetables are coming along, and we will be able to soon plant some summer crops.
Each Semester a new group of students are selected to care for the environment and this week those students will be nominated. I would like to give thanks to the outgoing students and we wait excitedly to welcome the new Earth Care Squad Members.
Chickens
If you have any kitchen scraps that would be suitable for our chickens, donations would be gratefully accepted. Simply bring them to the office for Mr Meixner who will deliver them to the greedy chooks.
