Term 3 Week 7
Dear Families and Friends of St Gabriel's Community,
National Child Protection Week
This week is National Child Protection Week. The theme is Every Conversation Matters.
From our youngest learners in playgroup through to our Year 6 students, there is an undeniable need for children and family members to talk and spend time together. Every opportunity for conversation lays a very important foundation for each child's development and their ability to develop resilience and work through challenges with much needed guidance and support.
With today's busy lifestyle, and easy access to online content, children now more than ever need to be clear about what respectful and responsible relationships look like. They also need clarity about the adults at home and at school who are readily available to them when they need support.
Next week an officer from SAPOL speaking with our students in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 about safe practices online. I encourage all parents to use this opportunity to revisit safe online strategies.

Learning Conversations
Next week we look forward Learning Conversations at St Gabriel's. These conversations provide an important opportunity for children to reflect upon their learning progress. It is also an important opportunity to think about to celebrate achievements and set learning goals for the remainder for this school year.
Father's Day, Thank you
I hope that all father's in our community had a wonderful Father's Day last Sunday. Special thank you to our Community Group volunteers who coordinated a Father's Day stall for the children and a delicious Father's Day Breakfast last Friday morning.
Season of Creation
Happy Father’s Day for the 1st of September. I hope all fathers had a lovely day.
The 1st of September also saw the onset of spring.
It also marks the beginning of the church season The Season of Creation which extends through to the Feast of St Francis of Assisi on Friday 4th October.
Creator God open our eyes and our hearts to the wonders of your presence among us. We gather as sisters and brothers and with all of creation. May we see the signs of your beauty within and about us. We thank you for your great gift of creation. Help us to care for people of every nation, animals of every species, all forms of vegetation, the planets, stars, and all the elements. We ask your blessing on all who work and support our efforts to care for creation.
Amen
Migrant and Refugee Sunday
All are welcome to attend the Migrant and Refugee Sunday Mass at the Cathedral on Sunday 29th September at 2.30 pm.
Please see the flyer below for details.
Earlier this term, as part of our learning about Indigenous Cultures the Year 2 students had an all-day excursion to the Adelaide CBD. Students visited the Adelaide Botanic Gardens to learn about Aboriginal Plants; students visited the Australian Aboriginal cultures gallery to learn about Indigenous artefacts; and students also engaged in a storytelling light instillation, Superluminal by Patch Theatre, revealing Indigenous inspired storytelling.
In Art, this term we have integrated our learning in HASS to discover Indigenous Art. We have been learning about individual artists and their chosen techniques. Have a look at our wonderful artworks inspired by Indigenous artist Betty Buffler.
This term we have been busy learning about procedural writing techniques. Last week, in preparation for Father’s Day students made a Father’s Day biscuit. We used this provocation to record the procedural steps for making Father’s Day biscuits. Please read one of the finished samples of writing:
In Mathematics, students have been learning about time. We have made our own clocks to learn how to tell time to the o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past the hour.
In Digitial Technologies this term, students have thoroughly enjoyed learning how to code Ozobot robots to perform certain instructions. Through using a combination of colour codes students have asked their robots to perform instructions such as turn left or right, backwalk, spin and turbo.
The Earth care Squad will begin planting spring crops in the vegetable garden this term.
The community engagement team at Bunnings will visit and supply vegetable to plant.
Box It Then Bin It
The Earth Care Squad are introducing the ‘’Box It then Bin It’’ campaign. This campaign is designed to encourage children to put their food wrappers back in their lunch boxes and then take it home to dispose of later.
So please...
Box It then Bin It
Alternatively – nude food will also help reduce litter around the school.
Please support our school in trying to reduce the amount of litter in the yard.
We're looking to form a sub-committee for volunteers to share ideas, provide support and creativity to help make our celebrations memorable for all.
This term's meeting a key item identified is the upcoming 70 year anniversary of St Gabriel's School.
Volunteering to support our community events is a fun and rewarding experience and welcome to all.
