Term 3 Week 5
Dear Families and Friends of St Gabriel's
This week is Catholic Schools Open Week and we have delighted in celebrating this important week with our wonderful St Gabriel's community.
On Wednesday children were provided with a delicious sausage sizzle for lunch. It was fantastic to see the courtyard with so many happy children happy enjoying their lunch. Thank you to Bernie Meixner our APRIM and Kos Skouroumounis our groundsperson for cooking this celebrartory lunch for our students.
Today was just delightful! So many members of our community came together. The morning started with coffee and a bake sale near the oval and continued with a Book Week Parade, the sound of the choir singing and a visit to classrooms.
Thank you to all of the grandparents, parents and visitors who attended the morning, you are all such an important part of this special community and we love to see you all each day and at special school events.
Thank you to our generous Community Group for organising the sweet stall and to all parents for supporting your child/ren with creating such a fantastic sea of costumes today.
Until next newsletter, best wishes for a peaceful and relaxing weekend.

Draw Near Project
St Gabriel’s School in conjunction with St Brigid’s School and the Clearview/ Kilburn Parish are invited to participate in the Draw Near Project.
The Draw Near Project aims to support Migrants and refugees in our parish.
The aim of the project asks us to DRAW NEAR the people who are in need as they resettle into a new country and culture.
To offer support and love to the people who are trying to make Australia their new home we are being invited to offer donations of food items.
The following food items are being requested to support families resettling in Adelaide:
If you are able to assist in donating food items, your generosity is gratefully appreciated.
Draw Near Prayer
O Jesus, help us to always remember that when we draw near to those who have been displaced, it is you that we are welcoming, in faith, in hope and in love.
Amen
Donations can be delivered to the front office or your child’s classroom. The collection will end on 27th September.
Jubilee Celebration
The Jubilee Celebration was a most uplifting occasion. The organising committee from the parish office did a wonderful job in arranging the day and the Archbishop was at his best engaging with parishioners.
Thank you to all those from our school community who attended to make the day so special.
The choirs who helped celebrate the Masses were also on song and added beautiful music and singing at the celebrations.
If ever you have the chance to listen to the parish choirs I thoroughly recommend you take the opportunity.
Catholic Charities
A brochure is coming home with your children this week. This brochure contains a message from Archbishop O’Regan who invites us to give lovingly to charities such as Our Lady of Levang, St Patrick’s Special School, Hutt Street Centre, Aboriginal Catholic Ministry and Centacare Catholic Services.
Please read this brochure and consider how your family may be able to help support these organisations.
Year 4 Religion
On Monday, Year 4 H and Year 4 F spent the afternoon with Daniela, a Muslim educator from the Abraham Institute in the city.
While studying prayer in Religion lessons, students tried to compare the way Christians pray with the way Muslims pray.
Daniela was very friendly and had a lot to share with our students.
Here is some of our learning from Daniela’s talk:
"I learnt that Muslims don’t always have to use a prayer mat, and that Christians and Muslims believe in one God."
-Ellie
"I learnt that Muslims work their prayer life into their daily life, praying 5 times a day. This sounds like a lot but it doesn’t have to take too long."
-Leigh
"I learnt that Muslims fast and Catholics fast also."
-Joel
"I learnt that Friday is the Muslim holy day."
-Layla
"Muslims and Christians have a special place to go and pray. Muslims go to a mosque and Christians go to a church."
-Hilary
"I learnt that Muslims have dietary restrictions so meat has to be prepared in a special way."
Kori
"I learnt that Muslims make sure they are physically clean before praying. And that they say a prayer of thanks before eating or drinking."
-Emelia
Year 3 Cleland Wildlife Park Excursion
Earlier this term, as part of our Science unit on Life Cycles, the Year 3 classes enjoyed an exciting visit to Cleland Wildlife Park in the Adelaide Hills. This excursion provided students with a unique opportunity to connect with our natural environment and foster a deep respect and care for Australia’s native wildlife. Students had a fantastic time getting up close to a variety of animals, including kangaroos, koalas, emus, and even a snake!
In HASS, we've been closely following the Paris Olympics, diving into the history and symbolism of this global event. We've also been tracking the medal tally (go Australia!) and have created stunning Olympic Torch and Tangram artwork, celebrating some of the incredible events that take place during the Games.
The Earth Care Squad is excited to invite all families to bring Nude Food to school in an effort to reduce litter in the yard.
Whatever your family can do to reduce waste in the school is an important contribution to looking after our beautiful school environment.

The role of the School Board is varied and enlightening.
This term's meeting a key item identified is the upcoming 70 year anniversary of St Gabriel's School.
We're looking to form a sub-committee for volunteers to share ideas, provide support and creativity to help make our celebrations memorable for all.
Volunteering to support our community events is a fun and rewarding experience and welcome to all.
Meeting will take place in week 7, please register your interest at: info@sgs.catholic.edu.au or at the school front desk 08 8216 9900.

Chair of School Board
We are thrilled to announce that thanks to the incredible support and generosity of our school community, our Community Garden space is now finished!
Our dedicated Community Group has come together to turn a vision into reality, and with the generous donations from students and parents our garden is ready to grow! This garden will be a beautiful space for all of us to cultivate plants, share knowledge, and strengthen our community ties.
The money donated through our school events have been used to bring the Community Garden to life! Thank you for your continued support!
The OSHC team have come up with different themes each week of Term 3:
