Term 1 Week 3

Dear Families of St Gabriel's
As a school community we value every opportunity to come together, and we encourage all families to participate in the various events that take place each term.
Newsletter
This year our school newsletter will be published each fortnight on a Friday. The aim of the newsletter is to provide you with timely information about our community, and includes details and upcoming dates for special events.
2025, A Year of Celebration
This year we are delighted to celebrate the 70th year anniversary of St Gabriel's, 180 years of Catholic Education and the Pope has named this year, the Year of Jubilee, Pilgrims of Hope. To acknowledge this monumental time there will be various events held in the school to celebrate.
To commemorate the beginning of our 70 years celebration of excellence in education, all students will be invited to participate in a school colour run on Friday 4 April. Detailed information about this exciting event will be provided to families via Seesaw next week.
Assembly
This year school assemblies will be held on Friday mornings at 9.15am in the Gym. Each class throughout the school will have an opportunity to lead Assembly, and students from each class will receive awards during this time. Assembly provides a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate their learning successes and we invite all families to attend.
At 8.30am on Assembly mornings, a coffee van will be available for those parents who would like to gather with other parents, buy a coffee, and have a conversation before assembly starts at 9.15am. This is a lovely informal opportunity to meet other parents in our community.
Please note the Term 1 dates for Assembly:
Friday 21 February - led by Year 6
Friday 7 March - led by Year 5
Friday 21 March - led by Year 4
Friday 4 April - TBC
Save the Date, Wednesday 19 March, St Gabriel's Annual General Meeting
This year we look forward to inviting all families to our Annual General Meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to acknowledge our growth and success in 2024 and highlight priority areas for this year. Further details about this opportunity will be provided in the coming weeks.
I look forward to seeing families at our upcoming events this term and appreciate the chance to connect with parents in the yard before and after school. Your presence and partnership make a meaningful difference, and we thank you for your ongoing support.
Wishing you and your families a blessed fortnight.
Gemma
To commemorate the 70th Year of St Gabriels School, we are delighted to invite all students to participate in our school colour run on Friday 4th April.
This promises to be an exciting and fun community afternoon.
Further details about how your family can support this event will be provided through Seesaw next Thursday 20th February.

Year of Jubilee
This Year the Catholic Church is celebrating the Year of Jubilee. In this context a Jubilee is a time of celebration, pardon, forgiveness and becoming more aware of the need and presence of God in our life.
Historically, debts would be forgiven, prisoners pardoned, land made available for farmers, opportunities given to help the poor re-establish themselves in the community.
This year our school is celebrating 70 years since the school was opened for the first time. We will celebrate as a community throughout the year to mark this significant milestone.
Throughout the year St Gabriel’s students will continue to help people in need through Project Compassion, soup making, caring for the environment and other social justice actions.
Beginning of Year Liturgy
On Thursday 6 February the school celebrated the beginning of the school year with a Liturgy of the Word. The students were in fine voice and participated in the prayer with purpose and great respect.
Due to the heat of the day our celebration was brought forward to an earlier time which meant Fr Leon could not be with us. Fr Leon and Fr Selva passed on their prayers and blessings to the school community.
Thank you to the many parents who joined us. We are a celebrating community who value the participation of parents in all aspects of school life.
Laudato Si – Care for our Common Home.
It has been a wonderful start to the year for our school. Children seem happy and are working to create good routines.
Please support your child in developing good routines in being responsible for their own litter. Please encourage your child to bring their wrappers home with them to dispose of in your domestic bins. This will help the school manage the mounting litter problem that faces the school each week.
Sacramental Programme 2025
The Catholic Parish of Clearview Kilburn is accepting enrolments for the Sacramental programme for 2025.
You can collect an enrolment form from the Parish Office or the school. Families are welcome to enrol their children for Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist. If you only wish your child to celebrate one or two of the Sacraments this is possible. Your child must be Baptised to receive the Sacraments.
The programme begins on 26 February with the first workshop for Reconciliation.
Children must be accompanied by their parents or significant adult at all workshops.
If you would like more information, feel free to speak with me at the school.

International Mother Language Day is celebrated on February 21st every year to remind us how important languages and cultures are. This day helps people understand and appreciate the many different languages spoken around the world. On Friday 21st February, after the Year 6 assembly, we will be gathering in our classrooms to share stories, songs and activities about different languages. Everyone is welcome to join their children in class between 9.45 and 10.30 am.
Do you or your child speak another language? We would love for you to share something in your language or about learning and speaking different languages with your child’s class. We also have a number of bilingual picture books that can be borrowed or read.
If you would like to share something let your child’s teacher or Miss Pedler know.
The Dante Alighieri Society of South Australia and Fogolar Furlan are presenting a fun, family friendly day celebrating the traditions of the Italian Carnevale on Sunday 23rd February.
Please refer to the Carnevale Down Under poster for information and booking details.
Maestra Dina – Italian Teacher
Our school values the support and engagement of our families, and we appreciate the opportunity to work together as partners in each child's learning journey.
Parent involvement plays a vital role in fostering a strong school community and enhancing each student's success. In Catholic Education we are committed to a thriving relationship between home and school and to support this, there is a Parent Charter which outlines the principles and expectations that form the basis of how we work together. A copy of this Charter is provided here for your reference.
Dear Families
As we commence our new school year together, we ask for your support with regard to supporting the new Right to Disconnect Laws that were implemented in August last year.
In the interests of respecting the rights of our staff and recognising the importance of facilitating and promoting healthy communication between home and school, we are introducing the following as standard protocol during term time:
Noting our staff spend a significant amount of their workday focussing on teaching or other activities applicable to their roles, staff will endeavour to respond to parent/caregiver communications between 8.00am and 5.00pm and within a response time of 48 hours. Staff will discern whether an urgent matter requires a shorter response timeframe.
Parents / caregivers are encouraged to contact the school Front Office in the first instance for general information. We ask that parents and caregivers be mindful and supportive of the above.
Thank you for your understanding.
Please be mindful of where you park when collecting your children. The sections of road directly outside the school on Barrington Avenue and Whittington Street are kiss and drop zones and there is no parking in these areas. Drivers should remain in their vehicles to be ready to move forward when a space opens in front of their vehicle.
Parking in these areas to enter the school creates difficulties for the flow of traffic for those parents remaining in their vehicles and creates an unsafe environment for children.
If you need to park and leave your vehicle, please find a park further along Barrington Avenue or Whittington Street. Parking inspectors do patrol our streets, so care in observing parking restrictions is needed.
Australian Catholics Magazine is a publication of Jesuit Communications Australia. It is a quarterly publication that aims to bring faith to life through interesting articles and information for all people of any stage in their faith life.
Our school has a subscription to Australian Catholics that parents are able to access. The subscription will allow you to read current publication and other publications in their catalogue.

Dear Families,
Our OSHC gate is installed to keep your children safe when they attend OSHC. We ask that you cooperate with us in keeping your children safe by not sharing the OSHC gate code with your children.
